The Midland Warplane Museum first opened to the public in 1983
and moved to Coughton Court near Alcester the following year. It made a final
move to Hatton near Warwick before closing its doors in 1993. The collection
had grown too large for the premises and we were unable to get Planning Permission
for an alternative site. A large number of showcases, engines and other artefacts
have been in storage ever since.
The Midland Aircraft Recovery Group recovered parts from many
crash sites in Warwickshire and Worcestershire. We
plan to start a virtual museum before the real museum can open once again,
to
commemorate those who flew in the Midlands.
Photographs
of the artefacts will eventually appear on this page, with the background
stories.
It is hoped that a CD-ROM can follow, with more photographs and
information about the military aviation history of the Midlands.
